MEETING MINUTES – June 10, 2025

 The Little Mountain Town Council met on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Derrick Community Center.  Present at the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Patrick Bowers, Marty Frick and Jillian Long.  The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm and the invocation was given by Council Member Bowers.

The council reviewed the meeting minutes of May 2025.  A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Long to accept the minutes as presented.  The motion carried.

The council reviewed the financial report ending May 2025.  A motion was made to accept the report as information by Frick and Bowers seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Bowers to open the public hearing on the 2nd reading of the 2025-26 General Operating Budget.  The hearing opened at 6:33 pm.  There was no public present.  The public hearing was closed at 6:34 pm.  A motion was made by Long and seconded by Bowers to approve the second reading of the 2025-26 General Operating Budget. The budget for 2025-26 is $180,822 with a total tax levy of 56.22 mills. The motion passed 4-0.

In other business:

  • The town clerk is waiting for a revised bid on the pathway at the Section House. A bid is also expected for the repair of the front steps and bathroom floor.
  • The pre-bid meeting for the renovation at Reunion Park was held on May 21. The council reviewed notes from the meeting.  Renovations are expected to begin in the second week of August.
  • The council is still waiting for the state budget to be finalized regarding funds for the clean-up at the Rocky Branch Trail Head.
  • The town clerk reported that some town businesses have not yet renewed their 2025 business licenses. Mayor Jayroe will reach out to those businesses in hopes of avoiding any further penalty to the business.
  • Fast signs in Irmo are working on the vinyl lettering for the business directory board. A few more placards will need to be added.
  • Little Mountain was well represented at the US 76/176 Corridor Feasibility Study held on May 22. Mayor Jayroe thanked all that attended.
  • Election information for the Newberry County Voter Registration Office was shared. Information has been posted on the town website and at the Derrick Community Center.

In new business:

  • The Dutch Fork Radio Group has been painting and making other repairs to the building. Members have requested that the council approve to cover the cost of having vinyl placed on the building where there are currently boards.  They are also planning on hosting a field day at the building on June 28.  Council Members asked that the group provide an estimate of the cost of the vinyl.
  • A bid for tree work has been received for Brady Park. There are two trees that need to be removed and the fence line and limbs over the gazebo need to be cleaned up.  The estimate for the work was $1600.  Another tree was damaged in the recent storm and the town clerk will inquire on the cost to have that tree removed as well. A motion to accept the bid was made by Frick and seconded by Long. The motion carried. The council also approved for the bidder to remove the picket fence behind the Section House for the pickets.
  • The Derrick Center Library will be closed on June 10, 12 and 17. The library manager is on vacation.  The town clerk shared the library summer schedule with the council.  A new story time on Tuesday’s at 11:30 am will start in July for especially for toddlers.
  • There will be a Reunion Planning Meeting on Thursday, June 19 at 6:30 pm at the Derrick Center.

A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Long to enter the executive session at 7:11 pm to discuss a contractual matter.  The executive session ended at 7:27 pm.  No action was taken.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 pm.
