SC Business License Tax Standardization Act, Act 176

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL

The South Caroline General Assembly passed the SC Business License Tax Standardization Act, Act 176. Act 176 streamlines the business license process, creating the same process for taxing jurisdictions across the state.  As of January 1, 2022, all municipalities in South Carolina that levy a local business license tax must comply with this law.

As a result of Act 176, a Local Business License Renewal Center has been created.  The online payment portal gives businesses the access to renew all their local licenses at one time.  Other standard details include a due date of April 30, a license year May 1- April 30, an application approved by the SC Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office, and a North American Industry Classification System or NAICS code for businesses.

To comply with the standard license year and renewal dates in Act 176, the Town of Little Mountain extended the 2021 license period until April 30, 2022. Therefore, the period covered by the business licenses issued by the town in 2021 will be January 1, 2021 – April 30, 2022.

The online renewal portal is for renewals only. Renewals must be completed and submitted at www.LocalBLRenewal.comThe Renewal Center will open to businesses for payment FY 2022-2023 on February 1, 2022.

All new business license applications will be issued by contacting the town or completing the online application process at www.littlemountainsc.org
