Meeting Minutes – Nov. 14, 2017
The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Little Mountain Town Hall. Present for the meeting was Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Melvin Bowers, Charles Shealy and Marty Frick.
Mayor Jayroe called the meeting at order at 6:30 pm and Council Member Shealy gave the invocation.
Council reviewed the meeting minutes of October 2017. A typographical error was noted. A motion to accept the meetings with the correction was made by Frick and seconded by Shealy. The motion carried 4-0. Council reviewed the special meeting minutes from November 1. A motion to accept was made by Shealy and seconded by Frick. The motion carried 4-0.
Council reviewed the financial statement as of October 31, 2017. A motion was made by Shealy and seconded by Bowers to accept the report as information. The motion carried 4-0.
Mayor Jayroe discussed the potential for a renter in the Section House. The Quinn’s, owners of the Little Mountain Antique Mall are interested in leasing the property. Council Member Bowers questioned if the lease would be long term or month to month. Jayroe stated that she needed to discuss the specifics with the Quinn’s. No further action was taken.
Council is holding the Annual Christmas Drop In on Sunday, December 10 from 2-4 pm at the town hall. Council members will bring refreshments to share. The town clerk will decorate the building. Also on December 10, Santa Claus will be riding with the Little Mountain Fire Department. Shealy and Frick will work together to get the Christmas decorations completed for the Town Center. Shealy will hang the new Christmas banners that should be delivered this week. Shealy and Frick will also put up the Town Hall sign on the building.
In other business:
- Frick has contacted Mike Hatchell with Nature’s Edge to complete the work at Rocky Branch. It is estimated that there is another day to day and a half of tractor work to be completed.
- New designs for the Senior Center/Library have been received based on the Nov. 1 meeting. After review of the new design, a motion was made by Shealy and seconded by Bowers to accept the new design. No date for construction has been determined but Mayor Jayroe is hopeful that construction will start the first of the year.
- Council would like to have pine straw placed at the Town Center. The town clerk will contact the lawn maintenance crew to schedule. Additional landscaping needs include the sign at Rocky Branch. Shealy indicated that Kaye Shealy is planning to work on that project. At Reunion Park, Council would like the old timbers around the gazebo moved or replaced with low maintenance plants.
- Town Clerk will contact Prison Industries for signs to indicate that park is daylight use only. Council will work on a list of any additional signage needed.
- Council would like for Pete Kohl to replace the double doors at the BBQ pit and clean the arch at the park. The town clerk will contact Mr. Kohl.
Council had a request from Little Mountain Elementary School to fund two (2) children for the annual Washington DC trip. The cost would be $980. A motion to approve the request was made by Bowers and seconded by Frick. The motion carried 4-0.
Council reviewed the calendar for 2018 and agreed to schedule a Movies in the Park for May 12.
Council reviewed the timeline for the lawn maintenance contract. The advertising for the contract should be held in February 2018.
A request from Belinda Parker to use the park for her son to teach exercise classes has been received. The days and time were not given. Council asked that Mrs. Parker be contacted to give more detailed information prior to any action by council.
The SCDOT Meeting to discuss the I-26 improvements that was scheduled for Nov. 30 has been cancelled.
Senator Tim Scott visited Newberry County last week. According to a representative in Mr. Scott’s office, the council would be notified of the visit. No notification was received.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:33 pm.
