Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, September 9, 2025
The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Present at the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members, Patrick Bowers, Jillian Long, Mary Buntin and Marty Frick. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Mayor Jayroe. Jayroe gave the invocation and asked if there were any comments on the agenda items. There were no comments from the public.
The council reviewed the meeting minutes of August 2025. A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Long to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried.
A financial report was presented to the council. A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Bowers to accept the report as information. The motion carried.
Mayor Jayroe and Council welcomed Sheli Madray, Director, Newberry County Voter Registration and Elections. Madray has been with the office for three and a half years. She was given the Director position last year after the resignation of the former Director. Madray is focusing on increasing and encouraging voter turnout in Newberry County.
In old business:
- Reunion Park Renovation – Mayor Jayroe stated that the renovation was moving slow. The fencing is in place; there is some equipment present in the park and the BBQ pit has been demolished. Contractors are still waiting for a
- Rocky Branch-A meeting was held at the Derrick Community Center on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, to discuss the Rocky Branch Trailhead restoration. The consensus was that the trail should be cleared naturally. Nat Birochak with Alpha Tree and Furman Miller with the Palmetto Trail, will work together in phase 1 of the project beginning the first or second week of The group will meet again following phase 1 of the project.
- Section House- Waiting on sample pavers and starting date from
- Lawn Maintenance- Tyler Bowers with Bowers Lawn Care will be attending the October meeting to discuss any fall/winter projects. It was also agreed that spraying to maintain the cutting that was done last fall and during the summer should be done.
In new business:
- Maintenance Changes- Schnell, currently doing maintenance, is unable to continue in that role. He had provided the town clerk with a possible replacement.
- Library Schedule- The library schedule will change the week of September
Tuesday’s at 11:30 am will focus on babies (0-24 months) and caregivers. Elementary aged children will have story time on Thursdays at 3:15 pm. The library manager will begin working for one hour on Fridays to accommodate local preschool schedules. The group on Fridays will meet at 11:30 am. The new story times have been well attended.
- Chairs for Derrick Center- The current conference room chairs at the center have extreme wear on arms and After a brief discussion, Council Member Frick motioned to purchase seven (7) new chairs. The motion was seconded by Long, the motion carried 5-0.
- Request for Reimbursement-A request from the library manager for $53.04 for library story time supplies was approved.
- Upcoming Events- The town clerk will be out of town on September 24; therefore, the office will be The Council was reminded about the upcoming event on September 25, Winter Garden Workshop. Brady Park will be used on September 27 for a wedding vow renewal ceremony.
- Upcoming Holiday Schedule of Events- The town clerk reached out to Nanette White who has overseen the annual Christmas Tree Lighting for several years and unfortunately, she is unable to manage the event this Council Member Jillian Long indicated that with assistance she may be able to coordinate the occasion which will be scheduled for November 30, 2025. Pete Koutrakos has already agreed to provide the sound for the event. LME choir and other groups will need to be contacted about helping. Terry and Mark Watkins with the Boland House were present and helped with decorating last year.
- Little Mountain Business Partners- Terry and Mark Watkins with the Boland House addressed the council regarding the newly named Little Mountain Business Partners group. The group has planned a calendar for the upcoming fall and holiday shopping events. The group would like to move forward with a business page on the town’s The town clerk will contact the webmaster.
A motion was made by Long at 7:05 pm and seconded by Frick to enter an executive session to discuss a personnel issue. The motion carried unanimously. The executive session ended at 8:10 pm. No action was taken.
