TOWN OF LITTLE MOUNTAIN
Meeting Minutes – September 12, 2023
The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Derrick Community Center. The call to order was at 6:30 pm by Mayor Jayroe. Present for the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Marty Frick, and David Bowers. An invocation was given by Council Member Bowers.
The council reviewed the minutes of the August 2023 meeting. A motion was made by Frick and seconded by McLeod to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried 4-0.
The Council reviewed the financial report ending August 2023. A motion to accept the report as information was made by Frick and seconded by Bowers. The motion carried.
Council welcomed Bailey McClinton to the meeting. Mr. McClinton addressed the upcoming town meeting on annexation. Mr. McClinton thanked the council for having an open meeting to give the public an opportunity to provide input. He stated that people have an issue with annexation because of control. Mr. McClinton and Council discussed related issues such as traffic concerns. Mr. McClinton stated that he plans to attend the upcoming meeting.
The council welcomed Charles Shealy to the meeting. Mr. Shealy spoke on behalf of Little Mountain Elementary School. The fifth-grade students at LME will be going on a trip to the Barrier Islands in January 2024. According to Principal. Kim Mack, six (6) children do not have funds to participate. The cost of the trip is $250 per student. Shealy asked if the town and/or Reunion would be willing to cover the cost of the trip for students. Council Member Bowers stated that he would personally cover the cost for one student. Mayor Jayroe, Mark and Terry Watkins and Council Member McLeod indicated that they would also provide funding. Shealy thanked everyone for their support.
Council welcomed Mark and Terry Watkins to the meeting. The Watkins’ own the Boland House property and plan to open the end of November 2023. The Watkins’ provided an update to the council on the renovations to the property and requested a change in zoning. Council previously agreed to a change in zoning for the property in March 2023.
In old business and updates, the following was discussed:
- Mayor Jayroe reported that she is still waiting for an update from the school district on the land parcels.
- The town clerk stated that she is meeting a contractor on Saturday to look at painting for the town hall and painting the pillars at the Derrick Center.
- Council briefly discussed preparations for the town meeting on September 14 at the Derrick Center beginning at 7 pm. Council Member McLeod has prepared a slide presentation for the meeting.
- New library hours started in September. The town clerk reviewed the attendance numbers for August. The library has been averaging 25 visitors per month.
In new business:
- There will be a ribbon cutting for Little Mountain Home on Saturday, September 16 at 9:45 am.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:27pm.
