Meeting Minutes – May 22, 2023

TOWN OF LITTLE MOUNTAIN                Meeting Minutes – May 22, 2023

Special Meeting for the First Reading of the 2023-2024 General Operating Budget

The Little Mountain Town Council met for a special meeting on Monday, May22, 2023, at the Derrick Community Center.  The call to order was at 6:30 pm by Mayor Jayroe. Present for the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Marty Frick, Laura McLeod, David Bowers, and Steve White.  An invocation was given by Mayor Jayroe.

Mayor Jayroe stated that the town has not raised taxes in the last three (3) years.  An increase in millage from 44.1 to 52.07 mills is needed to balance the town’s budget.  Jayroe added that this increase is a minimal amount to each citizen and will generate $46,403 in town taxes.

The council discussed potential annexation to create additional revenue for the town.  After some discussion, the council agreed to host a town meeting in the fall to explain the benefits of annexation.  A date for the meeting will be discussed at the next regular meeting.

A motion was made by Bowers and seconded by McLeod to approve the first reading of the 2023-2024 operating budget to include an increase in millage to 52.07 mills.  The second reading and public hearing will be held on June 13, 2023.  The motion carried 5-0.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:44 pm.

Respectfully submitted by:

Cindy Farr, Town Clerk
