Town of Little Mountain
Meeting Minutes – May 14, 2019
The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Present for the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Marty Frick, Steve White, Charles Shealy and Melvin Bowers.
Mayor Jayroe called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm and gave the invocation. Mayor Jayroe welcomed everyone to the meeting.
Council reviewed the meeting minutes of April 2019. A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Shealy to accept the minutes as presented. Motion carried.
The financial report was presented. Council Member Shealy motioned to accept the report as information. The motion was seconded by Frick. Motion carried.
Council reviewed the proposed general operating budget for fiscal year 2019-2020. A motion was made by Frick and seconded by Bowers to hold the first reading of the budget as proposed. The motion carried. 5-0. Council reviewed the reunion financial statement for calendar year ending 2018.
The council discussed the nomination of a Mayor Pro Tem. Currently Council Member Bowers serves as Mayor Pro Tem. There was a brief discussion with Shealy making a nomination for Council Member Frick to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem. The motion was seconded by White. The motion carried 5-0.
Council welcomed representatives from the Newberry Museum. The museum renovation is going well. Pictures of the progress were shared with Council. Items can be loaned or given to the museum. Council members and representatives shared information. The council was appreciative of the update.
In other business:
- Mayor Jayroe reported that there was no news on the sewer line.
- Frick is looking for someone to bid on the painting for the old part of the community center.
- There is no news on the delivery date for the furniture.
- Council discussed rescheduling the movie in the park. With the current schedule and warmer weather a possible fall showing may be best.
- Corder Pest Control will be inspecting the Section House on Thursday, May 16.
- There is a reunion committee meeting on May 23.
- There is no news from the Comet Transportation. Mayor Jayroe commented that she would like for the town to purchase some passes to be given away to promote the system.
- Council discussed making the community center a voting precinct. The county will be notified to see what steps need to be taken.
- Council discussed a potential open house for the community center. No date was chosen.
- Council discussed rental options for the community center. Council agreed that the center should be maintained for professional and community meetings. Any family reunions, parties etc will be redirected for the park. Council will review the guidelines and fee schedule for all town properties at the June meeting.
- A Dreher Island Storage sign has been placed at the corner of Wheeland and Hwy 76. Council members are asked to look at the sign as it may be in violation of zoning.
- The town clerk will follow up with the lawn maintenance company regarding trimming and pine straw.
- Council members talked with members of the DFGS regarding an agreement for volunteering at the center and the building usage. No action was taken.
- Council agreed to start looking at decorations for the Christmas season at the next meeting.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm.
