July 2017 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes July 2017

The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the LM Town Hall.  Present for the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Marty Frick, Charles Shealy, Melvin Bowers and Jeff Jefcoat.  Mayor Jayroe called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.  Council Member Frick gave the invocation.

Council reviewed the meeting minutes of the June 2017 meeting.  A motion was made by Jefcoat and seconded by Bowers to accept the minutes as presented.  The motion carried 5-0.

The Financial Report as of June 30, 2017 was presented.  A motion by Frick to accept the report as information was made and seconded by Jefcoat.  The motion carried 5-0.

Council discussed the construction and clean out of the Senior Center.  Mayor Jayroe asked Council Member Bowers to turn the air conditioning to a higher temperature and not auto.  There will be no one in the building on a regular basis at this time so no need to keep the building cool.  Myrtie Wessinger has requested that the card players at the center be able to play at the town hall.  Frick and Shealy will bring two round tables and a dozen chairs from the Senior Center to accommodate the card players.  The town clerk will call Ms. Wessinger to get her a key and let her know that the town hall will be available beginning July 19th.  Jayroe reminded everyone that all the remaining items need to be moved out by the owners.  Council is not responsible for moving personal items (such as the quilting racks) out.  Council agreed to wait until after the Reunion to do a walk through and begin cleaning and sorting items.

In preparation for the Reunion, the following was discussed:

  • The signs ordered from Prison Industries are at Mayor Jayroe’s office.  She will ask the county if they are able to put them up prior to the Reunion.
  • Frick and Jayroe discussed upgrading the electrical at the park.  While the Eagle Scout Project was being completed some of the wiring from the shelter to the stage was dug up.  Jayroe will contact the electrician about the work.
  • Frick is negotiating for a sound system company to handle the sound for the Reunion.
  • Leaves and pine cones etc. need to be picked up by the lawn maintenance crew

The Council reviewed the list of repairs and proposal from Pete the Handyman.  The charge for labor is $950 plus materials.  A motion was made by Shealy to accept the bid and seconded by Jefcoat.  The motion carried 5-0.

The Governmental Association meeting will be held in Pomaria on July 31.  Jayroe, Bowers, Shealy and Frick plan to attend.

Shealy updated Council on the expansion of Interstate 26 and passed out an informational flyer. There are currently three proposals for the Exit 85 interchange.  At this time no additional information is available.

Bowers made a motion to adjourn at 7:22 pm, the motion was seconded by Shealy and the meeting adjourned.  The next meeting is scheduled for August 8, 2017.

Respectfully submitted by:

Cindy Farr

Town Clerk
