TOWN OF LITTLE MOUNTAIN
Meeting Minutes – August 15, 2023
The Little Mountain Town Council met in regular session on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Derrick Community Center. The call to order was at 6:30 pm by Mayor Jayroe. Present for the meeting were Mayor Jana Jayroe, Council Members Marty Frick, David Bowers, and Steve White. An invocation was given by Council Member White.
The council reviewed the minutes of the July 2023 meeting. A motion was made by White and seconded by Frick to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried 4-0.
The Council reviewed the financial report ending July 2023. A motion to accept the report as information was made by White and seconded by Bowers. The motion carried.
In old business and updates, the following was discussed:
- Concerns at the LM Post Office –Mayor Jayroe encouraged the continued reporting of any concerns regarding services at the post office.
- Directory Board- The Council reviewed options for the possible expansion of the directory board. After some discussion, the council agreed to table any action.
- Parcels to Newberry County School District- The Memorandum of Agreement with the NCSD has been completed. There is no news on a date for closing.
- The council reviewed the maintenance contract on ac/heating units for the town hall and Section House. The cost of the contract would be $349. After a brief discussion, a motion was made by Frick and seconded by Bowers to approve the contract with Wilson’s Heating and Air.
- The council reviewed the current maintenance list. The following items were prioritized. 1) Painting outside of town hall, 2) Landscaping around town hall and Brady Park Gazebo, 3) Caulking and Painting Columns at Derrick Center. The town clerk will reach out to get estimates for the work. The council discussed renovations for the town hall. After some discussion, Nanette White and Marty Frick were asked to head up a committee to oversee the renovation.
- The council discussed the success of the 2023 Little Mountain Reunion. A post Reunion meeting will be held on October 12 at 6:30 pm. Charles Shealy and Andy Senn were present to give an update on the car show which featured sixty (61) cars. The council thanked Mr. Shealy and Mr. Senn for their hard work.
- The council discussed a meeting for the community to be held on September 14 to discuss growth, development, and annexation. The meeting will be held at the Derrick Center at 7 pm.
- The town clerk reported that work with the new cleaning crew was going well. The dumpster at Reunion Park also was going well.
- The council was reminded that new library hours will begin in September. The library will be open on Thursdays from 10 am- 4 pm and on the first Saturday of the month from 10 am- 2 pm. The council will revisit the hours at the end of the end to evaluate any further changes.
In new business:
- The council reviewed and approved the completed 20-21 audit. The town clerk will work with the auditor to begin the 21-22 audit process.
- Council reviewed and approved reimbursement from Marty Frick for blacktop patch for the Main Street parking area and from Leah Bush for library story time supplies.
- Council Member Bowers discussed parking at the Reunion Ball Field. Cars are being parked all the way to the fence and along the road which blocks other vehicles from using the roadway. After some discussion, the council agreed to place additional post and cable, as well as no parking signs to encourage vehicles to park in parking areas. Council Members Bowers and White volunteered to complete the project.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.
